Here's How to Determine the Right Size:

Paddle Length:

This will depend on your height, kayak width, and paddling style. Taller paddlers generally require longer paddles, while shorter paddlers need shorter ones.

Kayak Width:

Wider kayaks require longer paddles to reach the water comfortably without leaning excessively over the boat's side.

Paddling Style:

Your paddling style affects the blade angle in the water and thus influences paddle length. High-angle paddling, where the blade enters and exits the water more vertically, typically requires a shorter paddle. Low-angle paddling, with a more horizontal blade angle, usually benefits from a longer paddle.

Adjustable Paddles:

Many kayak paddles are adjustable in length, allowing you to customize them to your preference or to accommodate different kayaks or paddling conditions. Adjustable paddles are convenient if you paddle in various types of kayaks or share your paddle with others.

Sizing Charts and Guides:

Most kayak manufacturers provide sizing charts or guides to help you select the right paddle length based on your height and the kayak width. These charts are useful starting points but keep in mind your individual preference or paddling style.

Test Drive:

Test different paddle lengths to find what feels most comfortable and efficient for you. Many kayak shops allow you to try out paddles in the water or offer demo programs to test paddles before purchasing.

Other Considerations:

Longer paddles may be advantageous in rough or choppy water for increased leverage and power, while shorter paddles may be preferable for maneuverability in tight spaces or calm conditions.

Paddle Shaft Diameter:

Consider the diameter of the paddle shaft, especially if you have smaller hands or wrist issues. Some paddles offer options for shaft diameter to ensure a comfortable grip.

Your Preference:

It's worth spending time experimenting with different lengths and styles to find the paddle that suits you best!
